He understood that he resembled more a m-a-n than an a-p-e. He discovered that Sabor was a l-i-o-n-e-s-s and Tantor an e-l-e-p-h-a-n-t. This was how Tarzan learnt to read and write: alone, in a remote hut in the jungle, without ever having seen a human or heard its voice.
